Hi Karsten and Markus,

We have updated our style guide to address some of your questions. I'm answering some questions inline below as well:

> Are there Kanban Boards or Ticket systems or a git repo to see what state an article submitted is in?

We have a ticket system where you as an author should be able to know what's the status of your proposal at any time.

> How does the review process work for submitted posts?

We added the editorial workflow to the style guide page for reference.
https://opensource.net/style-guide/

> How do I interact with reviewers if/when there is no response to my
updates to a ticket?

The editorial team reviews all submissions and responds within their capacity as volunteers. Keep in mind that OSnet is still a volunteer-run effort at the moment. Unfortunately, they’re not able to respond to everyone in a short time frame: in general, the better, clearer and on point the pitch is, the quicker the reply.

> That is, once I submit either an idea or an idea-as-draft-post, what
should I expect to happen? What is the intended timeline for responding
to the submission, giving a review status update, providing back an
editorial review for author changes, and publication?

If a pitch is accepted, the editors will follow up with the author using the ticket system and the collaborative editing tool.

> How does that process interact with the editorial calendar? Do you have
a limit on the number of posts published in a week? Do you only publish
on specific days? What if the author has a specific date they want or
need to be published by?

Currently we only have capacity to publish a few posts per week. If you have specific expectations about the publication date of an article, or if it contains embargoed information, let us know when you pitch or submit it: no guarantees, though, we can't commit to a SLA.

> Does the editorial calendar impose any other hidden limitations? For
example, there could be an editorial goal to have at least one post a
week from an OSI Board member. Combined with a total limit on the number
of posts in a week, that would be a limitation on how many outside
submissions will be published. It wouldn't be uncommon for some of those
soft and hard editorial goals to not be spelled out in the public
calendar or to writers, but perhaps there is more that could be said?

There are no hidden limitations although we do try to have variety of topics and high quality in the material we publish. As the site grows and we raise funds to pay for staff, we'll eventually run special campaigns throughout the year like incentivizing proposals that follow a particular theme or topic.

I hope this helps!

Thanks,

Nick

On Tue, Nov 7, 2023 at 11:19 AM Markus Feilner <mfeilner@feilner-it.net> wrote:

Awesome, thank you!
